Spazju ġdid fuq ir-radju għall-kandidati għall-Parlament Ewropew

Bil-ħsieb li l-kandidati kollha ikollhom aktar opportunitajiet biex jikkomunikaw il-messaġġ tagħhom lill-elettorat, l-Awtorità tax-Xandir, bis-saħħa ta’ Paragrafu 1 tat-Tielet Skeda tal-Att dwar ix-Xandir, ħadet l-inizjattiva li, għall-ewwel darba f’elezzjoni, tawtorizza l-istazzjonijiet tar-radju nazzjonali jagħtu spazju lill-kandidati li se jikkontestaw għall-Parlament Ewropew, billi jilqgħu minn għandhom talbiet għal reklamar bi ħlas ta’ laqgħat ta’ informazzjoni li jkunu ser itellgħu jew jorganizzaw.

Din l-iskema tibda bi prova mill-1 ta’ Frar 2019 u tispiċċa fit-28 ta’ Frar. Wara tmiem l-ewwel xahar l-Awtorità se tkun qed tikkunsidra t-tiġdid tal-iskema skont il-każ. Din l-iskema se tkun qed titħaddem b’ċerti kundizzjonijiet ta’ garanzija u trasparenza li ġew ikkomunikati bħala Direttiva lill-istazzjonijiet tar-radju nazzjonali kollha.

F’kumment, l-Awtorità stqarret li “Iktar ma’ l-iskema, bil-kollaborazzjoni ta’ kulħadd, titħaddem tajjeb, hemm aktar possibilità li tiġġedded għax-xhur ta’ wara. Abbużi u immanuvrar strateġiku, fost oħrajn, li jimminaw l-iskop u l-ispirtu ta’ din l-inizjattiva, ċertament ma jgħinux”.

Dawk il-kandidati interessati, għandhom jikkomunikaw direttament ma’ l-istazzjon jew stazzjonijiet fejn jixtiequ jippromwovu l-l-laqgħat ta’ informazzjoni tagħhom. Id-dettalji ta’ l-iskema huma wkoll disponibbli pubblikament fuq is-sit elettroniku tal-Awtorità tax-Xandir.

New Airtime on Radio for Candidates of European Parliament Elections


In order for all candidates to have more opportunities to communicate their message to the electorate, the Broadcasting Authority, in accordance with Paragraph 1 of the Third Schedule to the Broadcasting Act, has taken the initiative, for the first time preceding an election, to authorise nationwide radio stations to provide airtime to European Parliament Election candidates by receiving their requests for paid advertisements of information meetings they would be organising.

This scheme starts on trial on 1st February 2019 and ends on 28th February 2019. After the first month, the Authority will consider the renewal of the scheme according to the situation. This scheme will function as per certain conditions of accountability and transparency which were communicated as a Directive to all nationwide radio stations.

In a comment, the Authority declared that “If the scheme works well, with everyone’s cooperation, there is a greater possibility that it would be renewed for the following months. Abuse and strategic manoeuvring, amongst other things, that undermine the scope and spirit of this initiative, certainly do not help”.

Interested candidates should communicate directly with the station or stations where they wish to promote their information meetings. Details of the scheme are also publicly available on the Broadcasting Authority’s website.
